Athens Riviera Catamaran Half Day Cruise

The Definitive Athens Sailing Experience

This is the most popular Athens sailing day trip, and the one guests consistently rate as the highlight of their Greek holiday. In five hours, you will trade the noise of the city for crystal-clear water, hidden coves, and a freshly prepared Greek lunch aboard a gorgeous Lagoon catamaran. The captain navigates to swimming spots along the Riviera that change daily based on wind and conditions, sheltered bays near Vouliagmeni, the dramatic Limanakia coves with their limestone cliffs, and inlets south of Varkiza that are only reachable by boat.

The Athenian Riviera Revealed

The Athens Riviera stretches south from Glyfada through the upscale neighbourhoods of Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza. From the water, it reveals a completely different face, dramatic limestone cliffs, tiny inlets too small for large boats, underwater caves, and beaches that are only accessible by sea. This is the coastline you will explore on our half-day sailing tour. The captain, who knows every cove and current, positions the boat in the most protected locations for swimming, ensuring calm water and excellent visibility for snorkelling.

What to Expect

The day begins with boarding at 1st Glyfada Marina. After a brief safety orientation and an introduction to the crew members, the catamaran departs for the first swimming stop, typically a sheltered bay with stunning cliff formations and a seafloor of white sand and rock. You have an hour to swim, snorkel, and explore. The crew serves light snacks and refreshing drinks at the first stop. An hour later, the boat motors to the second location, usually further south and more remote. Here, a freshly prepared Greek lunch is served on deck, fresh fish or chicken, salads, bread, and local wine or beer.

Snorkelling and Activities

Snorkelling gear is provided for all guests, and the water clarity is typically exceptional, 15 to 25 metres of visibility depending on the season. Underwater, you will see small colourful fish, sea urchins, and the occasional octopus hiding in rocky crevices. The boat is equipped with a stand-up paddleboard (SUP), available on a first-come basis for guests who want to explore a wider area while others snorkel or sunbathe. The catamaran’s wide decks and spacious interior saloon offer both sun and shade options throughout the day.

Why Choose Us

Our captains have sailed these waters for over a decade and know every cove, current, and safe swimming location intimately. Our crew balances professional service with genuine warmth, making guests feel cared for without being fussed over. Our chef sources fresh ingredients from local markets and prepares lunch aboard while you swim, ensuring everything is hot and delicious when served. We maintain our catamarans to the highest standards, with comfortable facilities and modern safety equipment. Our semi-private format, typically 12-15 guests from different countries and backgrounds, often leads to new friendships and genuine connection.

What To Bring

Bring swimwear, a light cover-up or rash guard, and a hat or visor for sun protection. Sunscreen of SPF 50+ is essential for the Mediterranean sun; bring your preferred brand or purchase locally. Bring a lightweight jacket or pashmina for sea breezes when the sun begins to set. Bring a waterproof bag for phones and valuables during swimming stops. Bring medications you take regularly and any motion sickness remedies if you’re concerned. Consider bringing an underwater camera or GoPro to capture snorkelling moments, and bring a positive attitude and openness to connecting with other guests.

Best Time To Book

May through October offers the most reliable clear skies and calm sea conditions. June and September are particularly beautiful with ideal water temperatures and fewer crowds than July and August. June through July offer the longest daylight hours, while September-October give you warm but not scorching temperatures. Book at least 4-6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and time slot (morning or afternoon departure). Morning departures typically offer calmer seas, while afternoon departures create magical sunset lighting as you return to the marina.

Plan Your Visit

Arrive at 1st Glyfada Marina 30 minutes before your departure time. Check in with the crew, place any valuables in secure lockers, and receive a brief safety orientation. As the catamaran departs, you’ll find a seat on the spacious forward deck and meet your fellow guests, typically a mix of couples, families, and solo travellers from around the world.

The first 45 minutes involve sailing south along the Riviera coastline while you relax, chat, and enjoy refreshing drinks. At the first swimming stop, snorkelling gear is distributed and you jump into warm, crystal-clear water. After an hour of exploring, lunch is served on deck while the boat remains anchored. A second swimming stop follows, with more time to explore, snorkel, or simply float in the Aegean. The return journey features the catamaran’s full sails as the captain positions the boat to catch the best light, often arriving back at the marina around sunset.
